Ever scrolled through Instagram and suddenly felt like your life was... boring?
You see influencers with their perfect hair, flawless skin, and endless vacations, and suddenly, your own life feels like it’s missing something. We compare our behind-the-scenes to their highlight reels and start questioning if we’re doing enough, achieving enough, or living enough. But what if I told you that behind those perfect posts, influencers are just like us? They, too, have their battles, insecurities, and struggles that never make it to the feed.
The Perfect Picture: The Instagram Fantasy
Let’s take Kate (hypothetical), an influencer who seems to have it all—an enviable

apartment, glamorous travel photos, beautiful outfits, and constant "goals" content. We look at her aesthetic feed and think, “Wow, her life is perfect. I need to get on her level.” But in reality, Kate spends hours perfecting each post, editing photos to look just right, and battling self-doubt when she doesn't get the engagement she was hoping for. And on top of that, the perfect vacation you saw her enjoying? It was actually a work trip that involved constant meetings with brands, deadlines, and endless to-do lists- It's a full-time job.
Behind the Glitter: The Reality of Influencer Life
It’s so easy to look at influencers and think, "Ugh, their life is perfect. They’re always at concerts, on tropical vacations, or at the coolest events!" But guess what? A lot of the time, those “perfect” moments are total smoke and mirrors. Think about it—how many times have you seen an influencer at a concert or on an epic trip and immediately thought, "I need that!" Well, spoiler alert: a lot of that footage is bought. Yep, some influencers actually purchase concert or travel clips just to make it look like they’re living their best life. It’s like they’re playing The Sims, except it’s their Instagram feed.

Next, we have those picture-perfect couple moments. You know the ones—cute selfies, dreamy vacations, and all the “couple goals” posts. But here’s the tea: sometimes those relationships are just for the ‘Gram. Influencers act like they’re in a perfect, happy relationship to get likes, clicks, and views. It’s all about building an image they wish was real—because, let’s be honest, fake love equals more engagement. The reality? They’re just playing a part in the story they’re trying to sell.
There's also the 'effortlessly rich' aesthetic—luxurious shopping sprees, pricey brunches, and flashy cars. But what you don’t see? Many of these designer bags and luxury items are either rented or borrowed just for content. Some influencers even take photos inside high-end stores pretending they own the products, only to leave empty-handed. It’s all about maintaining the illusion of wealth and status.
That said, not all influencers fake everything. Some genuinely love what they do and find joy in sharing their lives online without losing themselves in the process. But for "MANY", the pressure to stay relevant and keep up appearances often turns life into a constant performance. Every moment becomes content, every experience is a potential post, and the need for validation can feel exhausting.
The Irony of Perfection
In the race to maintain a curated image, so many people forget to actually live their lives.
Picture this: you're at a concert, but instead of vibing to the music, you’re worried about getting the perfect shot for your story. Or you’re having dinner with friends, but instead of connecting with them, you’re focused on whether the lighting is perfect for a photo.
We are constantly exposed to perfection—polished, filtered moments that make us feel like we’re falling behind. We start believing that happiness comes from keeping up with highlight reels, from proving to the world that our lives are just as exciting. But what if, instead of worrying about how life looks, we started focusing on how it feels? True happiness isn’t found in picture-perfect aesthetics. It’s in the unfiltered, messy, beautiful moments that don’t need validation. The late-night conversations, the belly laughs that leave you breathless, the quiet victories no one claps for but mean the world to you. When you stop seeking approval and truly immerse yourself in the present, life becomes richer.
Laugh without worrying if it’s Instagrammable. Have deep conversations without the urge to make content out of them. Experience life without feeling the need to prove anything to anyone.
So, next time you catch yourself scrolling, PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN. Dance with your friends, play dumb games, laugh until your stomach hurts, or, as one of my friends used to say, “Chalo baat kartein hain”—let’s just talk. Because at the end of the day, the best moments aren’t the ones we try to perfect for an audience—they’re the ones we truly live.
Life’s too short to be caught in the illusion of perfection.
Your path is yours, and no perfectly filtered feed can change how far you’ve come. The next time you compare, remember: they’re battling their own struggles too.
